So stress really sucks. Overall I think I hate it. Im done with all this HS business. I cant wait till Im in university. Yea, I know, it wont stop there though, no. But thats not it. Here I am, all accepted and good to go for a career in poly sci, and what?s that nagging at me in the back of my mind? Whats that little voice?
But I really wanna be a paramedic it says.
So here I am, just out of a meeting with my guidance counselor. Paramedicine, I need to take night school chemistry. Then, once Im done that, to be a paramedic is only a two-year program. Chalk one more pre-career change up!

Posted by justin at May 12, 2004 10:06 AMcorrect me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure a career as a paramedic is more stressful than as a poli-scientist. are you book smart, capable of rapid analysis and intellectual banter or fast on your feet w/ a strong stomach and nimble fingers? you'll change your mind again in college... make like every other 18 yr old and spend the summer as a lifeguard.

Posted by: jeremie at May 12, 2004 11:55 AMyea, i dont know, what im doing now is EMR training. Thats going well... i cant be a lifeguard, in canada it takes years for some reason... But, it seems i will see the back of an ambulance this summer for sure. Im becoming a volunteer Emergency Medical Responder with the St, Johns Ambulance. It will be good times, rely show me if thats what i want to do. Just finished my Basic Resucuer CPR, and Standard first aid. That's everything short of airway management and AED.
I want to have a job where i can be a part of something, save people, make a real, blunt differance you know.

Posted by: Justin at May 12, 2004 12:02 PMseems like you're taking the right steps. an in depth summer program is a great start. as long as you're not committing yourself to a long-term program so early on, then you're fine. it's great to want to make a profound impact on the universe, but unless you're britney spears, that'll take time... which you probably realize.
you may need the politics background once you start getting into the nitty gritty ethics of paramedic work. it never hurts to be well-balanced. a four year degree in addition to paramedicine will make you all the more valuable in the long run.
CPR and First Aid is the easy shit, let us know when you perform your first tracheotomy on a street corner, with a pen knife.
oh yeah and study abroad. best decision ever.
