Two years, thats right you mother @#%$%ers. Two years ago tomorrow becky and I got married in Santa Barbara
First thing that comes to mind? I can't believe it has already been two years. But lets save the overused and impersonal sentiments for some other article.
Next? Well... I think about being married and all that implies. I don't know... I have been with becky for about 7 years, or about 10 if you include how long I stalked her before we started dating. It feels great though... I don't feel any of the bullshit jaded feelings they talk about in Maxim magazine. None of that "old ball and chain" machismo that scares most guys out of making a real decision. I mean... We hang out like pals and we deal with life. We don't fight, or when we do it is about dumb stuff I fight with everyone about. Like how she doesn't really understand how awesome this is.
What does married life feel like? Well to all you unmarried fools out there, it feels the same as being single, only there is someone who has your back and gives a shit about you. It is great.
Right now Becky is in the other room on the phone stressing about work and her new contract etc etc. I hope she feels the same as I do, because if she does, she will realize that someone has her back too.
Posted by jeremie at May 25, 2004 8:44 PMawwwwwwwww....so cute. hhehehee. glad you guys are happy. you guys are fun to be around. keep up the good work. =P ...do you say 'congrats' for 2 years? I guess nowdays you do... so Congrats!!! J. you should take off work tomorrow, i'll hold down the fort for you. (eek! that's a scarey thought)
Posted by: brett at May 25, 2004 8:52 PMHahha.. yeah.. thanks for the comment. I can't take off though, because I would be by meself, since becky is stressing over a new job and all
Posted by: jeremie at May 25, 2004 8:58 PMFirst, congratulations! You guys rock! It seems like you guys have been together forever , or at least as long as I have known you, which is a damn long time. I have the smiling pictures from your youth! So what is this about Becky's new job? Congratulations on both accounts!
Posted by: liz at May 26, 2004 5:39 AMKudos! I hereby retire the word 'congrats' for this entry. Liz and I miss you guys a ton, but see that the west coast suits you both quite well. Hope to see you sometime soon!
Oh yeah, and what's up with that one picture of me from the wedding?! I look half asleep and totally sunburnt! Sweet!
Posted by: kurt at May 26, 2004 9:33 AMjeremie, you summed that shit up like a f*cking hallmark card. i also extend my BRAVA on two years of sinless cohabitation. what are you gonna get the lil woman?
i must say it is nice to see how a relationship should work. i have friends that are married, yet obviously weren't ready or aren't with the right person. w/in the first year they often felt the need to "ditch" their spouse or get drunk w/ friends, stay out too late and have the insecure "better half" call 8 times, angrily checking in. just seems so frustrating for everyone involved.
so congratulations becky and germie, for not being that couple. the world thanks you.
*i apologize for all the colorful metaphors today, but the past two very long weeks culminated today in a wretched commute and some uber road rage. stupid bitches in jaguars.
Posted by: missy at May 26, 2004 12:14 PM2 YEARS! Way to go buddy!
I only seems like yesterday I was sitting around a table in Santa Barbara with Missy, Matt et al as they were saying "So. Whadda ya think? Six months?" "Eight. Definitely eight" and here it is 2 years!
I'M KIDDING! RELAX! Sheesh, I know all your friends reading this are cursing my ass now. Well Stop! I can’t help my sick twisted humor.
Ok, here's my sappy contribution to this wonderful occasion:
When you marry, you give a big part of your whole person to someone else, and they to you. You trust them with that part and they trust you because both of you know that if no matter what life has for you, good or bad, you will protect that part of your partner you hold because if you don’t you will be left half a person.
I remember you spoke of commitment to us all at your wedding. I have no doubt that this 2 year anniversary will become 20 before you can draw your next breath and all your friends in this BLOG will still be here, like me, because that is just what the both of your are, forever.
So, from your Canadian family, BRAVO eh?
wow. i'm weeping silently at my computer. just kidding, but really, i can't thank all of you enough for being a part of our lives. it means so much and we'd all BETTER be bloggin' (or whatever else passes for communication) in 20 years...luv you all. b.
Posted by: becky at May 26, 2004 8:24 PMSorting thru my emails from I can't recall how long ago and thot I'd look at this blog thing y'all set up. {how do you find the time!!] Weel, it does seem like just a little ago that Paul & I were with you in Santa Barbara. The nice part is that everyone has had 2 yrs more with each other! My love and best wishes to you both.
Two weeks ago we became engaged. We had decided a few yrs back to wait til Bryn graduated [which she did on 5/17 with honors - picture glowing, proud mom here]. We'll get hitched on July 27th and honeymoon in SF...2 days in the city, then I have 4 days working as a board member on the Illustration Conference [ICON4], then we have 5 days in Calistoga getting lazy!
If I was even more ambitious than I am, I'd have a pic of me smiling w/the ring, but since I'm not you'll have to get the picture from this description: it is a lovely recasting of an antique setting, platinum w/a row of diamonds set in the band which is about 2mm wide. The stone [just over 2 carats] belonged to my great grandmother, was passed to my grandfather who wore it in a beautiful gold man's seetting he designed. It then was passed to my mother who wore it along with her own engagement ring. Since her passing about 10 years ago, it haas been in my dad's safe until Paul asked him for my hand [pretty old fashioned and great] and asked if we could buy it from him. He generously gave us the ring which was reset in the aforementioned setting. I can't stop looking at it.
We are doing a civil service in Baltimore, just the 2 of us and Bryn in the garden at the Ambassador, a wonderful Indian restaurant in town. A friend, George Ciscle, is officiating.
Time for a celebration!!
Whitney
Posted by: Whitney Sherman at May 31, 2004 5:39 PMCongratulations Whitney, that is wonderful! I wish you both the best and hope you can enjoy some of your away time!
Posted by: liz at June 1, 2004 8:21 AMDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! that's a nice rock. i'd almost be scared to wear it, but then again showing it off is much more fun. nice heirloom. congratulations. =)
Posted by: missy at June 1, 2004 3:15 PMThose who assert that the mathematical sciences say nothing of the beautiful or the good are in error. For these sciences say and prove a great deal about them; if they do not expressly mention them, but prove attributes which are their results or definitions, it is not true that they tell us nothing about them. The chief forms of beauty are order and symmetry and definiteness, which the mathematical sciences demonstrate in a special degree. by free online poker
