The great move to Atlanta has begun! I went up to Baltimore last Thursday night to spend New Years with Kurt and our friend Emily and then drive down to Atlanta so Kurt could start his new job.
When I arrived Thursday night it was the moment of truth - this whole move thing is really going to happen! It was the first weird moment of many.
Kurt went into work for his last day Friday morning while I started to pack up the kitchen. We had a nice New Years going out to dinner, did some packing, watched Napoleon Dynamite, and watched the fireworks in the Inner Harbor from Kurt's balcony, which was really cool.
The next morning we packed up wth car with the help of Emily, went to breakfast at the Golden West and finally hit the road at 2:00 pm on Saturday to start a very long drive.
Virginia went on for what seemed like forever. As the night progressed we had to stop more frequently to make it through. We passed about 500 Cracker Barrels. I kept the tunes coming with the iPod while we occasionally recited ND dialogue. We finally made it back to my apartment a little after 3 am, exhausted.
Sunday was a fairly surreal day with settling Kurt's stuff into the apartment. We both kind of looked at each other and said "now what?" One of us is usually driving the other to the airport on Sunday night.
Kurt started his job on Monday, which went really well to my relief. So now we are just starting to settle into the apartment. Little Guy has been acting out - I think he doesn't know who to bug since there are two people that can now do his bidding.
More to come…
Posted by liz at January 5, 2005 4:58 AMLiz said I needed a Red Bull to stay awake, so I said "okay". Then she was all like, "Dude, you have to chug it". In my loopy state of mind I agreed, doing my best Jer impersonation a la Napolean Dynamite. Holy Crap that stuff takes nas-t! It's like carbonated cough syrup. I almost sprayed it all over the windshield. This attempt to control my gag reflex was not helped by Liz laughing hysterically. Thanks for the sympathy, babe.
Posted by: kurt at January 5, 2005 11:18 AMnote to non-redbull drinkers: redbull should be served cold. hence all the little redbull fridges you may see around. the manufacturer actually says you should not drink it warm. maybe it'll make your heart explode faster if it's warm. who knows.
Redbull on ice, with a straw is the way to drink it, whether you're having it in a cocktail or not. on ice, really changes the consistency and makes it palatable.
congrats on the successful move!
Posted by: missy at January 5, 2005 1:06 PMWOO HOO!!! CONGRATULATIONS YOU TWO!!! That's so SWEET!! You'll settle into life together soon - have you started to meld your cd and books together yet? It took me 3 years before I could commit to that.
xoxo,

The books and CDs are on separate shelves (what Kurt could bring down in the car, anyway). We are going back up on the weekend of the 14th to start packing in ernest. We won't actually move most of Kurt's stuff down until February.
Posted by: liz at January 6, 2005 5:42 AMHahaha... yeah, those cds are a big commitment. Glad to hear it went so well. I wonder when you will start calling your apartment "our" apartment. Maybe when he ponies up some rent eh?
congrats
Posted by: jeremie at January 6, 2005 8:45 AMThis is sweet! I wasn't sure at first, but it totally rocks. The south is still weird tho. But in an endearing sort of way.
Books/CDs will remain separate for a (long) while. That's too much of a commitment...sigh.
