The New Years Club

Like many, one of my new years resoultions was to get fit. Unlike many, this required a continuation of my current program rather than an entirely new one. In other words, i was already going to the gym before new years, the resoultion was merely a renewal for me. What im writing about are those people who belong to the famed new years club. An organization of those who proposed a drastic change.

The new years club, as i know it is an annual influx of new members to a gym around new years - usualy the closest monday afterwards (people never commit till monday, or friday). Its usualy middle aged moms, dads, kids and the like, all sorts of people trying to do something. Whats differant about this sort of people is that they have no direction, they've done little research, and just get in people's way. Maybe thats a bit harsh, for the first few days they are motivated to learn but after that is where the majority of my rant stems from.

People who belong to the new years club have NO concept of cardio and its importance. 10 min doesnts cut it on a bike... Knor does doing an hour at level 1-4 unless your 85. There was this guy beside me that clearly copied my level and time, he was buzzing along at 100 RPM for 10 mins untill the intervals hit (lv12) and BAM he wimped out and went down to 50RPM on the interval over and over... it was nonsence really... Just go watch TV or someting and eat potato chips, youll likely burn more calories chewing. (to point out that im not a hippocrite i do 45mins at lv12 with intervals 1min hard 1 min easy)

People who are in the new years club have no concept of weight to rep ratios. You dont lift 100000 lbs 1 time... you dont lift 5lbs 10000 times... GOD, sorry, i hate watching 14 year olds shake to the BONE trying to lift a gazillion lbs to impress their friends.

When it comes down to it, they dont want to be there. Because if they did they would push... No pain no gain is a real thing. Theyll go for 2 or three weeks, figure out all they've done was waist their time cause they were lazy, and simply give up. So to all you new years club folkes out there, quit while your ahead.
