SIANspheric pt II

So none of your sorry asses took my suggestion and went to go see SIANspheric, but I sure did. One of the better shows I have seen, and pretty unique.

After everybody bailed with punk ass excuses, I drug brett out to see it. It was his birthday at midnight so he might as well stay awake for it.

Edinburgh castle pub in SF is pretty cool. Roomy enough... a wall of liquor... pool, pinball, etc. There was a little room upstairs where the bands were setting up. Anyways, we sat down for the first band, who didn't really impress me (at all). I was feeling a bit freaked since I pulled brett away from warcraft and didn't want to dissappoint. They covered their mic's with flowers and felt like a berkley hippie band which isn't my style.

Couple of beers later and SIANspheric setup. I had no idea what to expect live. There were about 25 people there. All had seats in an area the size of my living room. Brett and I sat in the front center, about 4 feet back. First song came on... FUuuuuuck, my ears are bleeding. Sonic wall of tripped out shoegaze rock. Sounded way better than the cd. Fifteen pedals on the floor in front of both guitarists. Sounds I thought were made via ruining mp3's in software were done live on guitar. What? I can't hear shit.

I didn't know that some base drums have a hole in them, to create a sort of bass wind that pops out. This was hitting brett and me in the face. It was sick.

They spoke of their drive up the coast, and how the Hamilton skyline with steel mills was much more beautiful. Sure.

After the show they had some merchandise... and asked the audience to support them and buy some stuff. Everybody wanted to buy shit. I told the guys thanks for coming all the way down to SF (I have been wanting to see them since I lived at rob's place when I was in school). They were a bit surprised and said that they were having a tough time touring the US, since no one knew who they were. SF was the only place people bought there albums. Bummer. I said See? it rules here... COME BACK! I guess they have a 50 hour drive to do after their last stop in Oregon.

hopefully they will last for another tour before breaking up... here is a quote from the back of their dvd:

"Petty in-fighting, drug abuse, break ups, cash grab reunions, are all part and parcel of the sorded SIANSpheric story".

bummer... hope they last. Great show.

all this kid kept saying after the show was. "i wanna buy some merch...should i get some merch?...man i wanna buy some merch." Thanks for the midnight toast there ol chum.

...and for the record. he didn't 'drug' me out, he makes it sound like he had to do actual work to get me to go (although true, i proly would'a just stayed home and played some craft). i contimplated it for maybe 30 seconds before i said ah what the hell, lets do this. Figured it was thursday night, i was just gonna do my laundry, which is always fun to put off...and basically.....i was thirsty. It was a great show...'whaaat!??...i can't hear you?'
