Curiosa Ruled!

Kurt and I went to the Curiosa tour last night here in beautiful Atlanta, and the consensus is -go see it! A very strong line-up that did not disappoint. IT topped out at over 6 hours of music fun! We saw - Mogwai, Auf Der Maur, The Rapture, Muse, Interpol, Thursday, and The Cure.

My least favorite was probably Thursday, which Kurt is now determined to like. There's something about the singer's voice that annoys me - it is so overwrought with emotion to the point of almost becoming a whine. But I definitely give them props for energy in the live performance.

My other favorite things to do at this festival:
1) Look for the best goth couple (they usually look like they are going to prom)
2) Look for the best hair (both color and style are important)
3) Best tattoo - though there were many impressive showings, I think the guy with "dumb" largely tattoed across the back of his head in a lowercase serif face took the cake.

The Cure was great . They even went on past curfew for a second encore!

The only thing that sucked was trying to get out of the damn parking lot after the show. They should really try to hurry up on that teleportation device idea.

So in closing - if they are coming to a venue near you - go! You won't be disappointed!

bored

you know you need a new job when:

while aimlessly wandering the halls after lunch, you end up in the kitchen next to the first aid box, only to take some ibuprofen b/c you're bored and want to dull the pain that is your job. (note to missy: ibuprofen is not valium). i wish this lemonade was a martini.

Missy "staring blankly at my resume"

also... the articles that brett blogged, about building bombs midflight, was sent to KROQ and kevin & bean were having a big debate about it on air this morning. the article that's TAKIN OVER THE WOOOORLD. apparently 13 of the 14 "passengers" had expired visas, this was discovered AFTER they were released from custody. WHO THE F*CK IS RUNNING THIS PLACE?!

Photobooths

They Rule! Our buddy Loren has one in his apt. and last night was Kelly's 25th Birthday so we had a little celebration at his place. Loren is one of those crafty mofo's so he rigged up a photobooth for shitz n' giggles a while back (Jeremie may have talked about this previously). But man...we had some fun in that thing last night let me tell you. Can't wait till Jeremie and or Loren get some of those pics scanned and up on the web. (The appropriate ones of course...HAHAAH) Good times.

Egyptian Ratfuck

This is a cool game that my friends loren and kelly showed us one drunken eve.

Egyptian Ratfuck - a violent card game

Dealer deals the cards between all the players in game. All the cards go out. Then, the person left of the dealer lays down a card. If it is a number, the next person lays their card down, and on and on until a face card is shown.

When a face card is shown the person next in line lays down a number of cards to try and show another face card. If it is:

An Ace: The player has 4 trys to put a face card down
K: 3 Trys
Q: 2 Trys
J: 1 Try

If/when a face card turns up, it goes to the next person, and they now have to try to get a face card. If a player doesn't turn up a face card, then the previous person collects the pile and put it into their hands.

Aw fuck it... this is hard to describe over a blog.

wait! booyah! here is an article on it:

Sputtering to a Halt

Hey out there -

Are you all on vacation, or is it just really boring everywhere? Seems like no one posts on this thing with the energy once exerted.

Well, I don't really have anything interesting going on either. Went to a bachelorette party this past weekend, but nothing crazy happened. There were just a lot of penis shaped novelty items everywhere.

Anyway, the real reason I wanted to post was to see if anyone has any good new music recommendations. They could be new old recommendations as well - since so many good old bands seem to be rising out of the ashes.

Jer Dynamite

I know, I know, we've covered this already. Jer looks like Napolean Dynamite. But seriously, I saw it this weekend and he is totally Jer (or vice versa)! I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but come on, Napolean chugging the Gatorade? Total Jer move. There are so many things in there that Jer may not have done, but I can totally picture him doing anyway. I was laughing right along with everyone else, but when the crowd stopped, I kept laughing. I just couldn't stop thinking of Jer. I'm sure people thought I was crazy.

Go see that movie.

Now!

Dam The Amsters

Day one
Leaving. International flyers really should get to the airport at least 3 hours before the flight leaves. Even though I was flying business class there were at least 10 people in front of me and apparently being a business call world travelers mean that you get 20 minutes of alone time with the check in person. Only took an hour getting on the plane. Then this woman enters after me and before even sitting in her seat asks the hostess "Are there any other seats?" looking down at me then back at the stewardess then back down at me stating... "No offense." Ummm yeah... none taken. Go back to your freak country you bitch. Oh, wait... you are. The seats were comfortable but when they recline (almost flat) it was at the pefect angle that, should you try to lay on your side -- which you couldn't cause they were just not wide enough -- you leg would fall asleep in the matter of 15 minutes.

And then... there were 2 year old twins that would not stop crying. 11 hours on a plane with children that would not stop crying... they should go back to their country. Oh, wait... they are. We also traveled across Canada/Iceland and as a shout out to Chris Jones and his adventures in the never dimming world of Sweden I can sympathise cause although you could close the blinds the sun still shown through for the entire trip.

The movies, always seemed to miss the start of them by 20 minutes. Outside of that the flight was great.

Airport was just like any other. Athough custons and declaration was a little odd.

Hotel reservation cancelled like 2 days after it was made. Great. Now I'm in a foreign land and homeless. Stephanie out to lunch. Damn it. Oh, but wait there are rooms available but no reservation for you. Uhhh.... ok. So give me a room. No problem. There you go. You have a room. But the room wont be ready till 3pm. No please leave the hotel. And do what???? Walked around and in the first 5 seconds realize that although everyone might speak english, all the signs, and I MEAN ALL the signs, are in Dutch. So If I were to type Deriovijngijeliehik that could very well be a dutch word but it still looks like gibberish. I walk around for a good hour and a half then realize even though I have a map I still dont have a clue where the fuck I am. Nor do I know where I'm going. I'm dying for a drink but want something refreshing vs. coke. No starbucks around to get an iced tea (which apparently is carbonated). Gave up from intimidation then finally found a place that had gatoraid (2E which is about 2.50). Went back to the hotel got the room called stephanie and took a short nap that ended up being the rest of the night but after not sleeping on the flight I didn't feel that bad about it.

The Traveling Sideshow is Over

I am glad to be home! I got back from spending the 4th of July weekend with Kurt and his family in Ocean City, NJ. It was a good time. The weather was great, got to see how much his cousin's kids have grown. Boardwalk, saltwater taffy, goofy golf, and Atlantic City casino action. At least his cousin David won some money. I always forget about the undercurrent of desperation at those places. There was also an amazing display of fireworks all the way up and down the beach. It looked as if everyone had coordinated a professional show!

I am now glad to be back in the ATL. It will be the first weekend in a month I will actually be home!

Coincidence?

You be the judge:

In the recent SPIN, there was a brief article about the movie Napoleon Dynamite and the title actor (AKA Jer) is currently:

1) Finishing up an animation degree
2) is planning to move to LA
3) Said that if the movie was not well received, the director might look bad, but he would look "sweet"

Therefore, I conclude that Jer actually did find a way to time travel and has come back as a 2 year younger version of himself to find fame and fortune through the movie industry.
