Buried in Tahoe

It was a pretty good day in Tahoe yesterday. Woke up at six and did a day trip to Sugar Bowl. The only downside was the wind at the top of the mountain, and the fog up there made it tough to see. I ended up buried in a gully right next to a "Danger Cliff Area" sign, which was fun on the one hand, but I spent my entire energy reserve crawling up a powder hill which kept caving in on me as I inched up.

I should have just done the cliff. Er, maybe not. Anyways, Gotta love tahoe in the snow. I called matt in arizona, because he has been my tahoe buddy for the last few years - sorry man, I just had to rub it in. I hope your AZ weather wasn't too hot for february bud.

Here is one of becky on a near empty run:

Robert Lang Origami

I was reading an interesting article in the New Yorker last night about this physicist-turned-professional-origami artist from california. He was a laser physicist (his dissertation was called "Semiconductor Lasers: New Geometries and Spectral Properties”) and was interested in the infinite possibilities of paper folding using a relatively constrained medium.

I dug up his site and found some cool stuff. For some of the work he uses a laser paper cutter to score the paper before he folds it. Also, some of the folds take over 6 hours.

Remember, all of the pieces follow the rules of origami: only one sheet of paper folded. He also wrote software to help him design the folding systems.

Here is a link to the article if you are interested in reading it... I still haven't finished yet. Also, this is the website I was browsing for the images

Royal Wood

I've followed this guy from some interviews on the CBC. There was a cool story of M Ward playing at a small Toronto club. The encore request for "Rollercoaster" and he asked if someone in the audience could play the piano. After some time, comes out of the audience and accompanies on the piano and nails it. Apparently M Ward is a musician’s musician and Royal Wood came to watch it. People that where there went nuts

Ryan Larkin

I just saw an interesting short about this man. I suspect you all know who he is. Pioneer Animator now pan-handling for change in Toronto.
The animation on the Documentry was excellent. It reminded me of the old Alias Demo stuff.
I think it would be worth the buy

Toronto Ghost Signs

This is an interesting collection of photographs I found today - someone has been digging around toronto collecting "Ghost Signs", or images of signage still remaining on building facades from years past.

I always dig seeing the old signs still hanging on to new buildings

So anyways

Last night loren, becky, brett and I went to this random show called the "Extra Action Marching Band" at 12 galaxies in SF. I had no idea what to expect, but the place was full of hipster kids. I had no idea, but the post-modern carnivale has its own "scene", and we weren't really a part of it.

They went on really late... way too late actually for it to be truly fun. I was already pretty much asleep, and the younger brett bailed because it was 1am and the crappy openning act would not finish up their set. But when they came out - all hell broke loose

About 10 minutes after brett left, the Marching band came on... The first impression was the best. Picture a half naked high school band - all kinds of drunk and messed up, waddling out onto a 20 by 10 foot stage. I mean, tubas, obo's, trumpets, etc. They sounded great, like a trippy carnivale act stuffed into a little itty bitty club.

Ah, you know what? Just check the video.

Tablog's recent moment of silence....

I just want to thank you all for not posting for the last day out of respect for Ms./Mrs/Miss Anna Nicole Smith's death. Your kind consideration for the loss of such a great asset to the modern world of acting and/or reality TV should be commended. If only I had known the depth to the amount of heart and soul the members of this blog had to so respectfully bow their heads and not post for the last 24 hours... I'm tearing up... sniff....

I don't know if anyone is still alive out there but..

I came across this while surfing..
I thought it was quiet humorous.
Why is no one posting anymore? I know i haven't put much intellectual fodder up lately and I'm sorry. But come on...
WTF? My life is pathetic and part of that pathetic life is reading this blog daily. If there are no new posts I start looking for a sharp knife. Come on, Im hanging by a fucking thread here! It's fucking cold and it's feburary. I miss sailing. I sit on my desk and blow onto pieces of paper and try to guess how many knots it is.
help..
